We spent the day driving through beautiful Iowa countryside on our way to Humbolt, home of the manufacturer of the Born Free. Steve had arranged for us to stop there so they could check out our vehicle in detail before we continued on the long journey west & north. The Iowa farms were lush & rich looking & the barns & farm houses were beautiful. Many barns had quilt squares painted on them to enhance the countryside for travelers. Very unique & interesting. I wished I had had a book with the names of the many quilt patterns that are made. Kind of like our bird books, tree books, wildflower books, etc. Always so much to see & to learn as we drive across America!
What a fun time we had in Humbolt & Steve surprised me by having the Born Free folks switch out our older foam mattress for the newer updated inner spring mattress! It makes for a wonderful night's sleep along the grand journey. While the BF was in service Steve & Bennie & I walked into & around town & found a delightful diner for breakfast. We tied Bennie outside & went inside & the first thing the waitress said to us is "What did you do with the pup?" We assured her he was safely tied away from any cars. She kept her eye on Bennie for us & at one point she brought us a carry out box of items from the kitchen for our pup! Now where in the world do you find people like this? The BF got totally checked out & we went on our way by mid afternoon to Storm Lake, IA.
We were amazed by gas prices in Iowa as premium gas was cheaper than regular gas due to the ethenol in premium gas & since Iowa is a prime producer of corn & therefore a huge producer of ethenol the price was cheaper. Initially I thought it was my dyslexia kicking in as we drove by the signs but soon I realized it was the real thing.
